What tool to configure XF86config

Thanks for all the responses.
What I did was to reinstall RH 7.1, as a workstation, not a server.
Then, all goes well, except I don't have the server stuff set up, but I can
do that on my own.
I think the install problem must have been due to the peculiar (to me)
partitioning that the install program did when a server installation was
requested. I am betting that some partitions just got filled up.
My problems trying to configure the X server with xf86config and setup stem
from the fact that:
I am betting that xf86config is setting up the wrong format for XF86Config
AND my bios was reporting my video card as a SIS 530 whereas the install
program reported it to be a SIS 630. I was using SIS 530 when I tried the
manual configuration with setup.
I haven't gone back to see if all these speculations are true. I have to
catch a plane for Florida. But, at least this dang thing installed.
