Just out of curiosity, if you're using a graphical environment like kde,
why are you stuck on a character mode mailer!?  Switch to kmail (I don't
especially like it, but it works) or sylpheed.  The behavior you are
looking for is already built in, and you can pick your browser of choice
to be invoked when you dbl-click.
