I don't think so. When opening a link from within Moz-mail, it'll open in an 
active tab. But I don't think there's a way to do it from the command line, 
which is what I suspect you'd need for Sylpheed to do it.

I believe there's a RFE bug for Moz mail to open URLs in a new tab, but I 
also think that it's a WONTFIX.

I'd recommend searching bugzilla for what you want (bugzilla.mozilla.org). If 
you don't find anything, enter an RFE bug for the ability to open a URL in a 
new tab from the command line.  It wouldn't get implemented 'til post 1.0, 
but it's worth an entry.
