I found that if I didn't use the full path, the exclude work.

tar cvzfp backup.tgz -T /tmp/filelist -X /tmp/xclude
where /tmp/exclude has just the line: linux-sxs

I will borrow your experience and try again. 
Regular expressions... Though I writes programs 
(mainly dBase dialects), I still didn't know 
what the freak is it.. :)
