pcmcia-cs dilemma

Ok, now that I have my laptop back (had loaned it out today) I looked in 
package manager to see what was installed and found no pcmcia-cs only a 
kernel-pcmcia-cs. Do I also need a kernel-pcmcia-cs for the 2.4.18 kernel, or 
will installing pcmcia-cs satisfy that requirement? Is that why mandrake 8.1 
has kernel-pcmcia-cs, because it doesn't have pcmcia-cs?
Am I confused or what? hehe
