Adding window managers

I switched to gdm and still have the problem. Which leads me to believe
that kde2's kdm is not the problem and there's something else going on...
I'll try some things tonight and hopefully get the problem better
defined. It'm finding it hard to troubleshoot. All I know is that the
app (the Gnome Wave Cleaner) plays WAV files beautifully when run from
xfce started in runlevel 3, but doesn't when run from KDE, xfce and
gnome started by kdm in runlevel 5 and doesn't when run from gnome
started from gdm in runlevel 5.
The app DID work OK from KDE at one point, but not recently. I'm
wracking my brain trying to figger out what's changed that could cause
this problem, but am drawing a blank. I DID install a new CD burner and
had some device file troubles, but that's all working well now. I
haven't installed any new libs or anything. I installed eroaster CD
burnng software to try it out, and the latest KonCD, but I can't imagine
that being the problem.
I welcome any troubleshooting suggestions that come to mind ;-)
