Webcams? Philips?

Yes, Philips is a good option. Although you should be aware that the
original driver has been discontunued and removed from the kernel in
2.6.8.

There's a new driver (actually a fork of the original) but it has support
only for a handfull of models. I guess that it'll incorporate new models,
but there no info about it.

I'm still using 2.6.7 with the old driver. Philips webcams are really good
(one of the best image quality I've seen in webcams).
