Here is the /etc/fstab mount line for the winxp share:
//modizzle/SharedDocs /mnt/modizzle smbfs auto,username=foo,password=bar 0 0

I was copying the files from ~/images/somedir/  to /mnt/modizzle using cp.

I just looked at the files and the sizes on the winxp and debian boxes 
are different. Now I just recopied using "cp *.avi /mnt/modizzle/" and 
all are the correct size. Very odd. These play fine on winxp now.

Don't you love self correcting problems?
