dep, you are a man among men! I had been resisting all along admitting that 
something akin to dos edit would do just fine. I just didn't have the courage 
to face the flame war that would fall from the skies like brimstone.

My first experience with Linux (RH5.2 IIRC) I remember being *absolutely, 
positively FLABBERGASTED* that you couldn't simply type, at any command 
prompt, 'edit filename' and end up with something that a reasonably savvy 
power user could navigate.

I haven't gotten over that experience.
