Fortunately, for my part, I've never *had* to. The economics make sense
without it. But there are some who feel the need to argue that Windows
is cheaper because it is what they know.
Still others fall into the MicroSavior Religious sect (which I have to
believe falls close to Atheism because no god would be that sadistic).
Still others find comfort in the Microbe political party (inch-by-inch,
we still own you). ie. The boss likes Microbe because is son's
micro-computer at home runs it and he can get his email to run on it...
Humorous story. A friend I work with was going to visit his
father-in-law to help set up his wireless network since he just got DSL
with a new broadbant/wireless router. My friend gets a call and his
father-in-law suggests he come over if he wants, they'll have a
cup-o-joe, but the wireless was already set up. When my friend asked
how, his FIL replied "I don't know, I think the DSL technician must have
set if up for me. I just plugged in the wireless card and I'm on the
Internet..."
My friend did make the trip, and after visiting for a while he looked at
the router/wap. It turns out, nothing was set up. He had never
actually connected to the Internet... Thanks to "plug-and-play"
security philosophy his FIL had been connecting to the neighbor's WAP
and using his Internet access :)
