I think the 3000 and 3100 are the followups to my old 3800. Not sure why

I get hundreds of shots out of my Rayovac rechargeables. Maybe the older
camera is more efficient.

This is the one big drawback for me. The viewfinder blacks out in low
light, and there is no infrared focus aid. So the safest thing is to not
use the zoom in low light, since it is infinite focus when not zoomed.
Just aim and hope for the best.

They do sell add-ons (screw on extensions, I think); wide angle and
telephoto.
These comments are about the 2 year old 3800.
