Mightn't happen.  I was hoping for the same thing in my Mustek driver
and GPhoto2.  They broke the driver when rewriting Gphoto2 from Gphoto
0.4.3.  Marcus Messner was one of the testers who ended up telling me
they weren't going to fix it.
