The Mormon church would not be a direct investor in Canopy. Those investments
tend to be very conservative. The Mormon Church invests in things like farms
and ranches and the transportation infrastructure to move it around. The
leaders either remember the depression, or grew up just after it. High risk
would drive them out of their minds.
It is possible that one of the companies that the Church does own, is a major
investor in Canopy. It is unfortunate that most of the players in this
charade are Mormon. I just cannot see the Mormon church directly involved in
this, there is no upside, even if they win. There are more than enough
detractors and legal problems to deal with without getting folk upset by some
damn fool lawsuit. The current President of the Church came up through public
relations, and his advisers are not fools.
