Although I do a lot of digital photographing since about one year when I 
bought me a Canon Powershot S50 (US prices seem to have fallen down to 
your price limit), I never print out pictures on a home printer. 
Overall, print services where you can upload your data or carry them on 
a CD are a better value when you take into account the costs of ink and 
special paper, and they are usually better in quality.

So, I'd save the money for the printer and invest it in a better camera 
instead.
