Mozilla Thunderbird and Crypto

Hi all,
Sorry to take us a little off topic, but has anyone else tried the new 
Mozilla Thunderbird?
I am trying to get Encrpytion and Signing working, but am finding that 
they do not support GPG/PGP.
Am I whacked?  It's looking for a PKCS#12 certificate file (*.p12 or 
*.pfx).  Am I missing something?
Do I have to jump through some stupid hoops I never did before?  Is this 
to try to make Thunderbird similar on Windows and Linux?
