I understand the by design part, and I have no quarrel with the desire
not to have a root user available. However, you missed my point.
During my install, the install proceeded to a reboot point WITHOUT
CREATING A USER OTHER THAN ROOT. Since the root user was not
accessible, I couldn't login to complete the after-reboot portion of
the install, and I declined to boot a recovery CD just to make root
usable. The first boot also produced a s---pot full of error messages
that I was not interested in tracking. End of experimentation. I
overlaid ubuntu with FC3.
