It only creates one user during install, and that user is sudo 
authorized. That's their root user; the first user added during install. 
I don't like that method, but it works. You do have the option of 
enabling the root password. ('sudo passwd root' maybe). They have a 
forum. Search there for help.

I like Ubuntu; I ldon't object to Debian and Gnome, but decided to go 
with stock debian instead. (I'm waiting [and waiting, and waiting] on 
Libranet 3 to come out.)

They have (valid?) reasons for disabling root.

The Gnoppix live cd is good, also, and based on Ubuntu.
