Thanks to Andrew, Klaus-Peter, Llama, et al for the info. I will hang
onto these little bits of gold as I progress with FC3.

A few notes for those interested:

1. FC3 as installed uses /etc/yum.conf plus /etc/yum.repos.d/... with
each parameter set other than [main] split off into a separate file.
The documentation hasn't caught up yet.

2. I hadn't found the FAQ; will read that next.

3. Lonni, yum apparently doesn't do quite excactly "what up2date
does", since I ran a complete update with yum, but up2date pulled in
more stuff. Maybe this is a yum configuration issue? Much more reading
to do about yum.

4. In spite of the GNOME yeggh! response (in the past I would agree),
I find the current GNOME quite acceptable, It's even simple now to add
icons to the taskbar. Sure, it uses more resources than XFCE, but it's
not bad. Since I'm not a heavy GNOME or KDE user, I'll just leave the
Red Hat bastardized versions in place.

5. Next I need to start chopping away at the started daemons. I think
sendmail, etc., has been started.

Later.
