I'm surprised they haven't done the hosted thing already. Connectwise,
having cannibalised Elsinore Technologies/ScreenConnect and switched it
to ConnectWise Control, is -really- pushing the hosted solution over the
original self-hosted version...for which they keep raising the pricing
to penalise you into wanting to go hosted. Everyone loves their
subscriptions nowadays.
I still say it makes no sense logically. That's like a carpentter
renting his hammer.

Well, I respectfully disagree for this action would not take away
from them but rather gives them mean to create an additional profit
center in an
area they should have locked in and should take minimal $$$ to roll
out, even if they had to use AWS themselves.

More and more of the community members are fading out (I know, we
have been saying this for 20+ years). Hosted/Shared VM is the way
the industry
turned long ago; this could had generated good revenue for them
had them offered it.

Is it too late or not wise if they have to compete with AWS and
other providers that cost $10 to 100 per month? That is an
entirely different question.

I just setup EC2 with two instances one for SUSE and one for
UBUNTU; I now need to install fp runtime and go through the
configuration - I would have
rather pay fpTech to activate my licenses on a ready to go VM and
pay them ... no need for me to deal or worry about libraries,
dependencies or anything
at all; I have my license for ## users, for OS [NN], give me an IP
and Keys for me to log on and do my thing - this has value thus I
personally would have rather
go that way than dealing with AWS from scratch.

I would even argue that they may increase their license/upgrade
sales because the cost of "self hosting" could be directed to a
robust cloud service with greater capacity
and more importantly, worry free (well, one would hope). Browser
based access to manage your account; rcp or rsync to backup your
stuff ...

Having said all that, if they get stupid with pricing because you
are now using their hosted services, one always has the option to
migrate out of there and go else where.

Regards,
