<p style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0">I am going to guess you have more than 7 bit characters, so what is stored on the disk doesn't have ascii values between 32 and 127 in each memory location. </p>
<p style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0">you need to get a hex dump of the data to really see what is going on, as in do you have codepage 437 (IBM PC) characters or more likely
<span style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">UTF-8 which can be up to four</span> bytes per character.</p>
