I am sorry, that should have been clear. Field 1 is last name, and field 2 is the
first name. Field three is the address, etc.

Subject: First Name Disappears
Hope you all enjoyed Father's Day.
I have a problem that started about six months ago.Can anyone tell me
how to solve this problem?
The file is called MAC and is the roster of men who served on the U.S.S.
McCaffery from 1945 to 1973.Showing my age, I was aboard in
1950-1952.We have a reunion every two years.
The problem is that somehow two men lose their first names. The men
are SUNDERMEIER, HERBERT J and BIELITZ. WILFRED F.These two men lose
their first names about every week to a few weeks.I keep adding the
first names back.
We have a roster of 1896 men, but only these two men lose their first
names
I have another problem but I will send another email to try and solve
that problem.

What processing do you run either once a week or every 2 weeks? Have you checked your processing to see if at any time code was added to clear the first name field specifically for these 2 or clear the first name field for the record numbers in question?

My partner sent me an update yesterday. The update had the two
first names missing from his update. Oh, he sends me his key file.
Before I replace my key file, I save a copy of my MAC file by using
Filepro's F, followed by another F, and yesterday I saved my MAC as
MACSAVE06132013. Then I remove my key file, and replace it with my
partner's.

I just remembered, why don't I look into my MACSAVE06162013 file and
check the first names. Sure enough, both first names were missing.
So, both first names were missing from my computer and my partner's
computer.
