OT: Who deserves the credit for the rapid growth in graphical computing?

Probably Xerox, whom Apple ripped off for the MacOS System 'n' (where 'n'
is a version number) operating system.

You can actually thank gamers for a lot of innovations which were
originally meant to serve gaming interests, but which are now rolled into
productivity apps.  Case in point, Adobe Photoshop now -requires- a
dedicated video card with at least 512MB of VRAM.
