OT: Who deserves the credit for the rapid growth in graphical computing?

The few mentions of Microsoft today made me wonder if not because of 
Microsoft, who then is to be credited!?!

Apple?  IBM?  AT&T?

I was excited to see windows for the first time ... I mean, it was as 
close to a hot date as it got!  I know, sad.

Granted, unlike you guys, I really did not see the age of computing grow 
since I came to USA in 1985 and saw my first computer in the HS I 
attended, bought my first PC a couple of years later 8088 compatible PC 
with 256K of memory, two floppy disks and I think it had a hard drive 
but really, I cannot even remember.  I do recall having to swap disks a 
dozen times before I got to a command prompt.
