Voice Recognition Software

I'll add my 2 cents worth, having had an eye on this technology for many
years.
I assume you're talking about filePro running directly on the client, and
not a terminal emulation topology, is that right?
Windows itself is a player in this market. In the Control Panel, see the
Speech Recognition applet. The technology in Windows 7 (at least) allows
untrained, talker-independent recognition, but also lets the user train
the software for better recognition accuracy. In Windows 8, I have read
that the recognition accuracy took a significant upward jump, but I have
not verified this.
My experiments (at various times) have confirmed that a head-mounted
microphone greatly improves recognition accuracy. These devices are quite
inexpensive. Buy several and try them out.
Once accuracy is good, the difficulty is in command and control,
especially navigating and correcting. For instance, filePro doesn't have
an "Undo" feature, but the voice recognizer (VR) may expect it to, and
send a ctrl-Z. Also, navigating from field to field is not done as
expected.
My experience has, of course, been mainly with Anzio (terminal emulation).
It's probably time for me to look at this again. If anyone is seriously
interested in exploring VR for use with Anzio and filePro, please let me
know and we can collaborate.
