I am using an older version of filepro, 5.0.09DN9 on a 2003 server x86
at the current time.
We are a wholesale company with about 10 computers in house and about
4-5 that log in remotely using the RDP client. I also have it setup so
all the local computers also log in through the RDP client.
We have been experiencing periodical server freezes that last for about
15-45 seconds. It never drops a connection but the entire system is
unresponsive. I did a stupid thing without knowing at the time I put
this server together. I used 2 solid state drives and mirrored them for
the C drive. I did not know about "Trim" at the time I did this. I also
didn't know that solid state drives can not just overwrite data like any
normal disk drive can. It has to first erase the data, then it has the
ability to write to it that space. As far as "Trim", it is not supported
in windows 2003 server which means my drives will just continually
degrade and get slower over time. As Usual, Learning from the School of
Hard knocks.
Anyhow, that's the reason I'm looking to buy a new Poweredge Server from
Dell. Seems like everything they offer for server software is either
2008 or 2011 versions.
A friend of mine has filepro 5.?? running on a server 2008 standard
edition x86 with no problems. I was thinking about going for the 2008
x64 for the extra memory utilization or even the 2011. I think 2011 is
only offered in x64 versions.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You,
Mike
