"Static binaries."  Problem solved.

There were issues at one point with static binaries dragging in dynamic
libraries anyway, but I'm convinced that was an issue that was solvable
in fP's code, and that dynamic binaries were a shortcut fix.  The library
function that it wanted to drag in at the time made no sense.
