Radio Shack is a takeover target:
24/7 Wall St., LLC is a Delaware corporation set up to run a financial news and opinion operation with content delivered over the Internet. The company currently has its content picked up at websites including TheStreet.com, AOL Finance and BloggingStocks, The Wall Street Journal online, MarketWatch, StockHouse, MSN Money, AOL Finance, Daily Finance, Time.com, and Newsweek.com.
RadioShack (NYSE: RSH) is one of the oldest retailers in the US. It was founded in 1921 and in the early 1960s was purchased by Tandy Corp. The Tandy name was used for some of Radio Shack's retail stores. RadioShack is currently a takeover target. There have been rumors that the company may be taken private via a leveraged buyout or purchased by Best Buy, probably for its locations. Best Buy (NYSE: BBY) would certainly not keep the RadioShack brand because it is considered downscale and does not have the reputation for quality products and service that Best Buy enjoys. RadioShack has already began to rebrand itself as "The Shack," an indication that it knows the older brand is a burden.

For those that are interested in computer history, Radio Shack / Tandy Corp. is on the verge of eating the proverbial business worm. They had a solid grip on the PC computer business at one time. Back in 1983? I bought a new Model III, shortly after a Model IV then a Tandy 2000 with a killer 10 meg HD and 128 meg of ram.......even Profile for the Tandy 2000!!! I loved it, then I was hired by a local PUMP company that had a Tandy 6000, with old, old trs-xenix???, making working programs in filePro was inspirational and FUN and the customer loved it, but alas those days are long gone, It was a learning experience and working with filePro was truly a benefit to all the people involved.
