Depending on the direction you're going wget can work great or is
difficult to make work at all. Wget is usually fine for downloading,
but doesn't work with secure FTP (FTPS) if you have to pass commands.
(I sometimes have to delete a file I just downoaded from a customers'
mailbox.) It is even more difficult to upload information to a secure
FTP. For that I use cURL. I got a system working with cURL that my
customer's tech didn't think was possible with a Windows-based command
line program.
