The new version 5.6 I up and running at both Nexus and Valar

Well, I bit the bullet and just decided to install the new version 5.6 in
two locations I control. It went very smoothly with only two small glitches
which I think will be fixed pretty quickly. Both glitches could have been
unique to my situation, so I won't bother mentioning them here. Otherwise,
the programs are running smoothly with no problems so far. This means about
15 constantly active transactional processes are being run simultaneously
from two locations, as well as a few other report type functions from
manager terminals. Of course, we'll really see the full tale on Monday
morning, when all the troops come in to pound on all the various elaborate
programs. My guess is everything will work just fine. The 5.6 version has
been in beta since before Christmas, and released for a few weeks now.
There didn't seem to be any reason to wait, and I *need* those indexes, and
a couple of the new features, especially the socket stuff.
So, my suggestion is to load up. Get your upgrades and put them into place.
I'm sure the two glitches I referred to will be wrapped into the download
tarballs and zips before most people get up on Monday morning... so if
either was an endemic problem, they will not be an issue for anyone else.
good luck to all, and to FP Tech in selling upgrades and new copies. This
licensed version is going to push filePro over the top. I can't wait for the
5.7 release now which I know already has some (lots) of the wish list stuff
we've all been asking for in it already.... like the cool new enhancement to
Define Output that will allow us to easily add pictures, logos and
signatures dynamically to any output by using print codes. (not having to
hard code various files onto specific print code tables like we have to do
now.) The faster people get up and running on the 5.6 version, the faster
the next group of features can come out. So, come on, start upgrading if
you haven't already.

P.S. - Why did I just put the new version right into production?? Simple.
It's been tested for half a year now, and I did a lot of that testing
myself. yes, there may be things that still need fixed, but we'll all find
them as they happen and get them attended to as always. I just can't find
any more problems unless I have our *full* systems and numbers of people
working on the programs. It doesn't behoove me (or anyone else) to wait any
longer to start using the new features of the new filePro. Bon voyage.
