Show statement a browse lookup

Is there an answer to this problem?

I have a browse which uses lookups in a drop to select records to show.
This routine takes a few seconds and I would like to display "One Moment -
Gathering Name".

I tried doing a show statement as part of the drop routine - didn't work.
Showed up when the browse window displayed.

The moved the show statement to the line just after @wbl is executed.  Again
the show statement appeared only after the browse window came up.

Changed @wbl to @wuk leaving the show statement execute when F8 was pressed.
Again it never came up.

I tried video sysn before the SHOWCTR() statement.  No luck.

Is this possible?
