key file not found error

I am using 4.8.11 fp for windows native and just changed win operating system to xp home.  I have several programs in a dir, and all of the key files are in there, however fp can't seem to find them.  I get the"can't open file blah/key file not found!"
Is there a work around this problem.  I tried re-installing fp to no avail.
any suggestions will be appreciated.
