What about something written to just go through the key/data segment(s) and
rewrite those parts of the 20-byte headers? Perl could breeze through that.
You'd have to make sure nobody was using the files while they were being
operated on, but it certaily seems viable to me.
My only concern would be if any indexes were built on them. I though
building indexes based on system-maintained fields was a Bad Idea[tm]
though. Or is that only @rn?
