Using less to view output

I have the following printer definition setup in one of my clients filepro 
config file.  This successfully works at other locations but I am unable to 
get it to work on this system.

printer27=ViaFile,nocodes, | cat > /tmp/fpfile$$ ; less /tmp
/fpfile$$ ;rm /tmp/fpfile$$,Send output to /tmp/fpfile$$

When I run a report the fpfile is created, and removed, but is not 
displayed, I am immediately returned to the command prompt or menu.  I am 
able to run less from the command prompt to view the fpfile generated by 
the report, it just doesn't happen during the report process.  I have tried 
using an explicit path to less (/usr/local/bin/less) but it did not 
help.  Since the file is removed, which happens after less, less must run 
but exits immediately.

Running filePro 5.0.09.D4 on SCO OSR5 5.0.7

The only environment setting I have for less is S (LESS=S).

Any ideas why I am unable to view a report I send to less.
