We can all see that it's *you* who wrote your message, not someone else.

Top-posting is placing your new text on top of (ahead of) that which
you are answering, instead of having your new comments follow the prior
quoted material.  It's annoying, in that it presents the conversation
in reverse sequence on the page; then it's extremely hard to follow the
back-and-forth repartee in the order in which it actually occured.

HTML is formatting for browsers.  Nothing to do with top-posting.
