dcabe getting stuck at ESC ESC

I think I've seen this behaivor before but it was maybe 6 years ago and I 
don't remember the fix .

What Should I check if when I hit ESC ESC during a dcabe it hangs and just 
says on the top of the screen :  DEFINE PROCESSING    fp 5.0.13R4
