dclerk aborts on scan/selection - why?

OS: SuSE 9.2, KDE 3
fp: 5.0.09D4

 From the command prompt:

dclerk deliv2 -m ma -xie -xs t -s1 -b -t 400000

the "ma" qualifier on deliv2 has 40,987 records.

t.sel: Scanning for records created or edited by user Dericka on 05/18/05:

(a and b) or (c and d)
a:@cb:eq:dericka
b:@cd:eq:05/18/05
c:@ub:eq:dericka
d:@ud:eq:05/18/05

I've tried tokenization values from 200,000 - 500,000 in increments of
50,000. On one occasion, at a tokenization value of 300,000, it
displayed 2 or 3 matches before it aborted back to the command prompt
(repeated tries at 300k aborted immediately). On all other occasions it
aborted back to the command prompt without displaying any matches. In
some cases it aborted immediately, in others it displayed the scan
screen for up to 5 seconds before it aborted.

When I say "aborted to the command prompt" I mean:

:~> dclerk deliv2 -m ma -xie -xs t -s1 -b -t 500000
Aborted
:~>

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
