I have a few apps using associated fields extensively include one that works
like a spreadsheet.

Just an idea, even though associated fields are built-in arrays, why not overlay
an array over the fields, as long as they are contiguous, and the test the
elements. I realize that this defeats the purpose of associated fields or as
some would call it "a work around".
