I do agree with you with regards to update/grade *ell. FreeBSD tries to get 
around it by promoting upgrading by source code, rather than binaries, but it 
still can get wrapped around the axles.

Eventually it all boils down to flexibility and incremental costs. Eventually 
the marketplace will seek lower incremental costs and more flexibilty. 
Eventually even societies/goverments are replaced with those with lower 
incremental costs and greater flexiblity.

A lesson for all of us.
