To CAPR supporters and other interested parties:

 

 If you, or someone you know has had an issue with your County Assessor in
regards to an Agricultural tax exemption, the message below and the letter
in the attached PDF file will be of interest.  The Department of Revenue has
sent a letter to all Washington County Assessors asking them to "take no
enforcement or collection action with respect to the removal or
reclassification of property currently in farm and agricultural land until
we have the opportunity to work through the rule-making process".  It
appears that DOR is going to reconsider their strict interpretation of state
law.

 

Kudos must be given to the Save Our Farms Coalition and other groups for
mobilizing quickly and getting people involved.  A large, well informed
crowd always makes a difference!

The attached PDF is a memo from Brad Flaherty, Assistant Director of the
Department of Revenue, Property Tax Division, to all County Assessors
requesting that they take no enforcement or collection action with respect
to the removal or reclassification of property currently in farm and
agricultural land until the Department has the opportunity to work through
the rulemaking process.

  

Please distribute this e-mail widely.  I will send this out to the entire
stakeholder list when I finish updating it, but we wanted to get it out
before the weekend at least to everybody who confirmed for yesterday?s
