No private property shall be taken or damaged for public or private use
without just compensation having been first made . Article 1, Section 16,
Washington State Constitution
The framers of the Washington Constitution did not explicitly define
"damaged" because they undoubtedly thought the plain English definition was
obvious. They didn't realize that our judges use language other than English
and would completely ignore the damaging of your property by government.
I-933 will explicitly define "damage" for them. If you think that would be a
good thing, you have 25 days to get I-933 on the ballot. Polls show it will
pass if on the ballot.
The Washington Farm Bureau has gotten 5/6th of the way there. They still
need 50,000 signatures from volunteers (that's double the number collected
by volunteers in the first 72 days) or the money to pay the pros to gather
them. The pros can get those signatures in the next two weeks if we can
raise the $90,000 to pay them.
Most of you receiving this message have sat at home expecting someone else
to put I-933 on the ballot. If you continue to do that, your only choices
are to send a check today or send the message that current land use
regulations are okay with you.
CAPR mailed fresh copies of 933 to over 11,000 households, including many of
you, this weekend. Please send in petitions with any signatures on them and
use the fresh petitions to keep gathering. Many of your friends and
neighbors will also receive petitions. Take a minute to encourage them to
get 5 or 10 signatures asap and send them in.
Please send info ( <mailto:info at proprights.org> info at proprights.org) on
events during June that would be good places to collect signatures.
CAPR volunteers have been putting up yard signs encouraging people to sign
933. There is a stack on the front porch at 15019 SE May Valley Road,
Renton. Come by and get a couple for your yard. They also work well in the
left rear side window of your cars.
Contact your nearest Signature Gathering Captain to volunteer.
